Minding My Soul, “Inside the Wilderness”…

We are back at it again. Taking the time to mind our own souls. Take a moment and breathe, relax, even have a glass of wine. Whatever makes you happy and at peace. As long as you are minding your own soul, who cares?

So have you ever felt like you were just wondering around life thirsty? Has it ever felt like you are just tired of going no where and you can’t seem to make it out of this dry place? Well maybe you are in your “wilderness” season. There is a lot to learn here. It really is all about how you perceive your current condition.

In this season you may feel alone with no one to hear your call for help. I challenge you to change the perception of your environment. So, what is the wilderness? Its a desolate and uncultivated place or space. Its sounds scary, dark and lonely, right? I won’t lie to you it is. I have been there. Its not my first choice to vacation in, lol. But, there are so many things that you can learn in this place.

Lets start with the first thing that I learned about this quiet, dry and dark place. It seemed inhabitable. It was uncomfortable. However I learned that comfort was my crutch. Its easy to run back to what is safe. Its easy to become stagnant in your comfort not because you don’t want to grow but because you dwell too much on the path and not the reward at the end of the path. So, what do you do, you choose not to walk it. Hoping that some way that same reward could come a different way. NOPE!! So I got out of my comfort zone and walked around a little.

The second thing that I learned is that there was no chaos, it was quiet. The only chaos was present was from my thoughts to run, scream and kick my way up out of that place. I learned to let go of chains that were no longer holding me. I was now holding on to them, I just needed to open my hands. I let go of the chains I was walking around with. I learned that I was no longer bound to be available for everyone. I learned that it was okay to put me first for once. It was quite alright for me to say no. I learned that being available to everyone all the time, made no time for me. I was pouring from an empty cup. If that is not chaotic, I don’t know what it is. But I knew that I could no longer partake in madness and that I was no longer captive.

The last thing that I learned. Wow, this was a big one. There is always a better reward after the testing and the trial. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It could be your healing or even your peace of mind. You cannot know healing if not for wounds. You cannot know peace if not for chaos. You cannot know you, if you do not step outside of who you think you are, because of fear. Fear, I learned that I do not have to be in fear of the promises for my life. I do not have to be in fear that they are too great and I am not worthy. The promise was me. It is me. Me, whole and smiling, minding my own soul.

Some of us are in our wilderness season and it is not a death sentence. It is a journey of self discovery. The seas have been parted for your escape and rescue but you have to keep walking. Manna will rain down from heaven, so gather and eat. You may complain and ask why and how you got here. You can’t go back. Take courage. This is the time where you will be given direction. This place seems uncultivated and desolate. I promise you that it is you who is being cultivated and made to be habitable. You will have to ascend the mountain multiple times to get the direction and the promise . Each time you will be stronger and stronger. The wilderness will teach you how to survive. You will lose some people along the way because your promise is not their promise nor their direction. They will follow you and grumble against you but it is okay. Keep walking! This is your EXODUS! Shabbat Shalom!

Exodus 3:7-8, And יהוה said, “I have indeed seen the oppression of My people who are in Mitsrayim, and have heard their cry because of their slave-drivers, for I know their sorrows. 8“And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Mitsrites, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Kena‛anites and the Ḥittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Ḥiwwites and the Yeḇusites.

Exodus 33:14, “And He said, My Presence does go, and I shall give you rest.”

I hope that this has been encouraging and uplifting for you to mind your soul.

Minding My Soul Moments…

Good Morning, rise, and grind. Rest and breathe. Whatever your heart needs today, that is what you do. I want to take a moment to encourage you to mind your soul. It’s your business what you do, but there are moments where your soul needs you. So I leave you with a little encouragement. I hope that you can take solace in this small moment.

“Every wound or broken piece of your life is an occasion to experience the Most High Yah in a way you could not experience Him if all was well.” – Tehilayah

There are a thousand things taking place around us at all times, things are seen, some unseen. In every situation we encounter in this life there is a lesson.

Healing does not come without first having a wound. Healing is a process that we try to often rush. The well doesn’t need to be healed. The sick, however long the process, need help. Sometimes, we walk around not knowing that we are sick. The diagnoses are handed to us and we realize that we have been walking around sick for awhile. It’s crushing. The first question is, how? We check off these little imaginary boxes. These boxes say, “but I…”. We then began to recognize it in our interactions and our quiet moments alone. We see hindsight that we have mismanaged our souls.

A wound is often a sign that we need to slow down. Example time. My daughter asked for a skateboard. She always does all the research before she brings anything to my husband and me. She had no problem making her case and of course, we got her a skateboard. She watched countless videos on how to ride. The day comes, “Mom, can I ride my skateboard?”, she says. My response, “have fun, be careful.” Well, a few moments later she comes back tears in her eyes. “What happened”, I ask. “I was going to fast and got too close to the rocks, I hurt my leg”.

I realized something as I was being a nurse mom. For her to begin the healing process she had to be still. She had to allow me to care for her. I had to clean and dress the wound and she had to be still and experience the love and care she needed. LESSON!!!

The first part of healing is being still. It’s in those still moments where the Most High is caring and nurturing you.

Be still, and know that I am Yah; I am exalted among nations, I am exalted in the earth! (Psalms) 46:10

I hope this has been an encouraging and uplifting moment for you to mind your soul.

There is a challenge that is happening across Instagram and Facebook called the, “Who Am I Challenge”. I was not tagged I wanted to jump right in there and shoot my shot. So I did.

Here is a video of my poem, “Who am I”…

So, WHO ARE YOU!!

My 100th Blog post!!!!

My 100th Blog Post!!!!!!

Milestone are always great to celebrate. I want to take the time to thank all my subscribers that support this blog. I can’t believe that I am now on my 100th Blog post. (insert smiley face here).

Its been almost 2 whole years since I started this blog. It has not always been easy to post content but I stuck in there. Trying to find new ways to stay relevant and innovative is not always easy. Sometimes you don’t have vision and sometimes your vision is too big.

This year I implemented a new feature on my blog called Feature Friday. So far we have had three Friday Features since the launch and the poets are amazing. If you are interested in Feature Friday, don’t be a stranger. Check out the Feature Friday page for instructions here .

Things I have learned in 100 blogs:

  1. You Don’t Have To Blog Everyday. Just make sure that you set a goal for maybe once a week. don’t push yourself. In pushing yourself you can become discouraged and give up. Set a small goal and stick to that until you are ready to push harder. Commit to your success.
  2. Dont Limit Yourself. Just because you built your blog and advertise it as a poetry blog or a cooking blog and even a self help blog doesn’t mean you can’t talk about other things. You don’t have to be one dimensional. You can speak on other interest. Just stay true to who you are and don’t forget why you started the blog in the first place.
  3. Blogs Don’t Have To Be Long. You do not have to write a thesis on your blog. It has no word limitations. You won’t get shamed if your post are just a quote of the day. Sometimes that all you have and its also all that someone needs at the moment.
  4. Dont Overthink It. Be you! This is not the end for you. Blogging or not blogging will not make or break you. Do it because you love it. Do it because you have a voice and something to say. And in the event you have nothing to say, don’t blog. Don’t force yourself to meet unrealistic expectations.

I learned this and more but this is all I can think of at this time. I hope that this helps you. In the meantime celebrate with your girl!!!! I did it, I did it!!! 100 blogs and counting. Brainstorming on new ways to make blogs 101 to infinity, magnificent.

A letter, a prayer, a desperate cry!

Abba,

I try my hardest to understand the meaning for my trials. I search for reasons as to why my affliction is heavy and long. I search and tarry in my mind to no avail. For the understanding is unreachable. It is distant and yet near to me. Just out of reach and still I can smell the dew of freedom lingering in my steady and slow breaths. I find ways to be still when I rather run. Its easier laying at your feet broken and a mess. It pleases you to crush me. Pleases you to break me. Pleases you to cut and not sever me completely. I just ask that in the midst of my affliction that you show me the beauty of your blows. And you take away the ashes and cover me in your love.

This is a letter, a prayer, a desperate cry. Love from your Daughter… Tehilayah

This is for the broken hearted. The afflicted soul. The person battling a disease that won’t quit. Know that you are not alone. I know it’s not easy. You’ve heard often, “its going to all work out, you’ll be okay”. Truth is, when your in the midst of it, it seems like it will never get better and your not okay. So, I wont tell you that it will work out or you’ll be okay, I will tell you to be patient and look at the positive. Count all your joys and lean on them. In remembrance of the joys you find solace and renewal. I hope for you strength and peace.

Shabbat Shalom!!

And He said to me, “My favour is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, then, I shall rather boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Messiah rests on me. Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in insults, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for the sake of Messiah. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

In Excess…

Good Morning. What a lovely morning it is!!! I wanted to share a little poetic praise this awesome Shabbat Morning.

You love me in excess
I drown in the overflow of your love
And there is so much of you I have yet to experience
I live in the overflow of your presence
You love me in excess of your patience and I am still
You love me in the excess of kindness and I smile with freedom on my teeth
You love me with more joy and peace than i can hold
I drown in the excess of you
You love me in excess and its never too much
Yah you love me past full
This cup overflows with you
I desire the overflow
Fill me with you
Love me in excess
You love me gentle
And soften my heart
I highly surrender
You Yah love me in excess and its never too much
I am healed in your excess
Free in your excess
Delievered in your excess
Brand new in your excess
You could never love me too much
Your excess is amazing
I surrender to your excess love
Love me in excess
I want the overflow of you
And there is so much of you I have yet to experience
In excess

The Art of Resting..

Photo by Dominic Sansotta on Unsplash

Rest according to dictionary.com says that it is

  1. the refreshing quiet or repose of sleep:a good night’s rest.
  2. refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor:

Today, I want to highlight the second definition. Refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor. This is important.

Lately life for me has been going fast pace and nonstop. When life happens this way you can find yourself burned out and overwhelmed. Sometimes you realize that maybe you have been putting all your focus on one thing neglecting other things and it hasn’t been beneficial. (Imagine me with raised hand pictured here).

What I have learned this past week , is that when I take small moments throughout my day to just sit quietly and just breathe, I am resting. Resting is more than just sleep. Stopping the hustle and taking a little time to focus on my mental clarity sets me at ease. We live in such a fast paced world that causes us to move and halfheartedly experience the moments that make memories.

So, I encourage you today to take small moments to just experience the moment you are in and rest your mind.
